My husband and I recently bought our first home, and I finally got my art studio all set up! After years of living in apartments and painting on the coffee table in the living room, I dreamed of having a room of my own to paint in. It’s hard to believe we actually have the space now. Here’s how I brought it to life!
A DIFFERENT KIND OF PAINTING
After cleaning out the room (which was used as a spare room with random items we didn’t have a place for when we first moved in), I got some pink paint. Although many friends cautioned me against it, I was hellbent on painting this room a light pink color. I had a plan and I was running with it!
Thankfully my mom was super sweet and came to help me paint, so we got it done in one day.
My cat, Challa, can’t help himself and has to climb on everything. All furniture has to be Challa Approved.
FURNITURE
I had a pretty decent idea of how I wanted a desk laid out based on the shape of the room and where the window is. I found this cute L-shaped desk on Amazon for a good price. It had a small ding on the top when it came in, but I was able to cover it up with decorations. It’s sturdy, cute and definitely does the job!
Challa Approved đź‘Ť
With the new desk, I obviously needed a cute chair to match. I found this one on Amazon as well and it’s pretty comfy! I wanted something that would compliment the wall color, and this chartreuse color is the perfect fit. I’m honestly more in love with it than I thought I would be, and I am trying really hard to be careful and not get ANY paint on it.
Eventually, I’ll be getting an over-sized easel to put in the other corner of the room, but that will probably be after I find a new home for my massive Lovesac that takes up half of the room.
DECORATIONS
As you probably can tell, skulls are sort of my “thing.” I really wanted to find some kind of skull brush holder for my new desk, and found this cute one on Etsy (I got the large one). It’s technically a cactus/succulent planter and doesn’t hold all of my brushes, so I may need to find a new brush holder in the future and switch this out to what it is meant to be.
I also have a couple of Funko Pops on the other side of my desk as decoration.
START OF A GALLERY WALL
When moving, whether you’re moving to a new home or a new room in your space, it can be a little overwhelming how much artwork and art supplies you have. I still have yet to hang up ALL of my paintings, but I managed to start a mini gallery wall so that I had an area to start storing paintings.
Bonus painting I hung up next to my desk.
While it’s not completely finished, I wanted to share my progress and excitement for having a separate space to create. It’s fun to have this area, but it’s important to remember that it doesn’t matter where you create, all that matters is that you are creating.
UPDATE - AUGUST 2019
After settling in for a few months, I’ve added a more decorations and hung up a few more paintings. The framed prints on the left are from paintings done by one of my favorite artists, Blake Neubert.
